Introduction

Below is the diagram of my kitchen in a G + 11 building. You can see how the load from the terrace is getting distributed to the earth via some architectural elements. As this is a framed structure the load is transferred via the columns and beams only. Depending upon the need, the structural members have been articulated the columns and beams are of RCC and the walls are made up of the concrete which is locally available.




Learnings from this module:

  1. A building needs to be able to withstand loads from the forces of nature and gravity in order to keep standing.

  2. Understanding various components of the structural system used i.e. columns, beams, slab, foundation, parapet wall.

  3. Material choosing is crucial, alongside the costing, quality, quantity.
